A lot of guys on here are huge 2-stroke fans, so I won't even go into the whole 4 vs 2 debate, but after watching Sam and Mike tear up the trails on those little 2-strokes, I'm convinced.
I'm thinking a 300 is a little large and 125 is too small...
What do you guys think of a KTM 200 EXC or XCW?

Re: KTM 200?
If I had it to do over I would get the KTM 200 or the Husky wr 150 for the grand less than the KTM. I just can't get use to the 4st after almost 30 years of riding 2 st's. Now if I could just sneak one more bike in the garage without my wife finding out.

Re: KTM 200?
I've turned into a pretty big two-stroke fan in the last year or so. I have a 300 and I've ridden Sam's well set up 200. I like the 300 simple b/c it has a nice low end and you can lug it real well, but still open it up when you need to. The old magazine articles used to call it a "3 stroke". I'm not sure how many actual pounds less the 200 is, but Sam's 200 does feel a little lighter in the tough stuff.Magilla400 wrote: I'm thinking a 300 is a little large and 125 is too small...

You probably cant really go wrong either way as long as you stick w/ a two stroke EXC or XCW. (I can't remember what the Husqvarna or GasGas enduro version is...)

I've been thinking that (200ish 2t) for a couple of years now...maybe it's cuz I'm getting old. I actually like the looks of the GG Pampera- older bike, but street legal. When I'm ready to buy (again) I'll look around for something like that.

Re: KTM 200?
My $.02 from what I have owned (smokers).
Had a 04 KTM 200 EXC, great bike, very nimble, it has an adjustable power valve that is super easy to adjust where you want the pipe to come in.
It came with a 6 speed while the 250 and 300 were still 5 speed. 1st was super low, great grunt through the rocks gear. The downfall of this bike for we was the "hit" from the power valve. You can adjust it but when asking all of the 200 to haul my fat ass up some nasty climbs. I either had to get the pipe in and keep it in or risk the pipe comming in when I was not expecting it and caused some interesting "get offs". For that reason alone I move on to a 250 WR Husky. Great engine (when tuned proper) with a super strong pull but no surprise hit like the little 200. Downfall of that bike for me was the 5 speed that was geared super tight, no way would it work for any dualsport duties. Ahh, the 3 stroke 300's....what can is say. Yep if miss handled you will be picking them out of the trees, but when making proper use of what that engine has to offer you can lug lower than most 4 strokes and at a flick of the clutch be up in the pipe for performance that will want to throw you off the rear. I have zero wants running my 300 (it also has a map switch). It will chug low and tame as a 150 - 200 or will roost with any 500cc 4-stroke.
Just DAMN fun to ride.

Re: KTM 200?
I've been called a little "thick headed" before...so if that happens again, it doesn't surprise me. But who can dualsport with a 2t bike? I don't understand this conversation. We can't license a 2t in MD and I thought it also wasn't possible in PA.

Re: KTM 200?
Sorry, but I think you've been told wrong. It may not be easy, and you may have to jump through some hoops, but it is possible to convert and legally register a 2stroke in both states. Some bikes (usually euro ones) are easier due to coming with open titles or MSO's.
Re: KTM 200?
Saw this one awhile back, not shure if its a good deal or not.
