chain breaker

Do I need one of those fancy tools to break a chain?
Or can I make do with normal garage tools. I have just about everything.

I may actually get around to replacing the chain and sprockets on Jr's KX.
Of course I may have the wrong size chain

I went up a tooth or two in the rear and ordered the stock sized chain. But the current set up isn't stock, I don't think?

Anyway, I usually go about stuff half-assed, so this is nothing new.
We'll find out soon.

edit-current set up is 14/51 with a 120 chain or a 122. I counted 61

I have a 14/53 to put on and a new 120 chain. Should fit, right?

To shorten the chain just use a grinder and grind the mushroom off the end of the pin than use a punch and tap it through.

Dremel does the job too. To install a new rivet type master link, I do think you will need a chain tool to do the riveting. I think the Motion Pro is the cheapest, and riveting the link is the only thing it is good for. Worthwhile investment IMO.

If you are using a clip master link it's not really needed, but it's a good investment.
