Exactly. The 800 GSA was a total top heavy pig and had the worst suspension ever. It was softer than my Z125 and I am not exaggerating! That thing was so sketchy, I took it off road once and then never again. The 790R and T700 are both getting great reviews for handling and trail manners, feeling lighter than they are. I have owned many BMW's and they have A LONG WAY TO GO, to be in the same ballpark.juddspaintballs wrote: ↑Sun Aug 23, 2020 5:25 pmIt's all about how they carry the weight, though. Newer designs are finally putting fuel and motor weight lower on the machine and a good suspension really makes a difference.

Might I introduce you to the S1000XR...Firebolter wrote: ↑Fri Aug 21, 2020 2:30 pmBMW (and I have owned a few) are really over priced and not as great as their rep is. pretty reliable bikes, but room for ALOT of improvement.
In all seriousness, that was the only reason I bought another BMW vs. a Ducati Multistrada. The thing is a rocket ship. And I wholehearted recognize it isn't the classic BMW architecture, suspension, or drivetrain.
Though I most certainly wouldn't go adventuring on mine...which reminds me of a rolling joke I have about adventuring. Any time the rider stands while riding, you are officially adventuring. Makes for great photo ops.

My buddy Dan calls them Gophers. Not used to look for danger at Starbucks but to attract attention on their eternal quest for a latte.

True that. The big bikeapotomus BMWs carry their weight down low with the opposed twin and the weight really kind of disappears until you're picking it up from a dirt nap. But even then, my 1200GS is much easier to pick up than the KLR I rode on the TAT. Most bikes lay down completely flat but the 1200/1250 BMWs will easily rock up onto the crash bars at the cylinder heads. That makes it really easy to turn around with your back to the bike and lift it with your legs. One look at my GS and you can immediately see that it's be using the engine guards pretty regularly :)juddspaintballs wrote: ↑Sun Aug 23, 2020 5:25 pm
