but it's not cheaper than a passport (I think it's actually an add-on to a passport so you have to get both). The only benefit is that it fits in your wallet.
Yup, it's an add on, you still have to get a passport to get the card but it is only 10 bucks for the card (it was when I got mine). Good ID to have. Leave the passport at home and carry the card. Like you said, only valid for Canada and Mexico.
