I finally downloaded this video and watched it frame by frame. That made it easy to see how I screwed up. My front wheel never touched the log so the bike's first contact was the bottom of the bike/back tire which caused the front wheel to immediately come down. That may have been obvious to others but I couldn't see it without stepping through the video... Yeah, I'm kind of slow on the uptake.

Too much wheelie and you were leaning back a little? Maybe going uphill was a factor.

Right, the intent was to jam my front wheel into the log compressing the suspension and then getting some bounce back to get over smoothly. That's what I did from the other side. I just screwed it up when going uphill. I was nervous as it looks worse from that direction.
