Wasp progress report

Post by Rut Row » Sat Feb 07, 2009 3:24 pm

I pulled the tank and carb today. The gas appeared very oily as if all the gas had evaporated leaving behind the 2-stroke oil - but there was over a gallon of gas in the tank so some gas was there. There did not appear to be an lacquer buildup.

The foam air filter disintegrated on removal. The airbox has a thick layer of oil/dirt on the bottom. I tried to clean it and it doesn't look too bad but may decide to remove the airbox and find a dip tank.

The carb looks good with no residue on it. I'll disassemble and clean it tomorrow. The hoses are very brittle so I'll replace those while I'm at it.

I doubt I'll try to start it tomorrow since the air filter is gone.

Just honing my monkey style as much as I can from watching stuff and not actually doing.

I'm ready for the doing now.

Wingfixer has taken the tie rod to his shop to extract the broken heim joint shaft. :gdog:

We tried to do that at my place but decided some heat was necessary so we wouldn't also have to extract a broken easy out! :nono:

The new (correct) heim joints are in and I also ordered security washers - small cost for a little extra safety.

I have a complete hose set on order. :deal:

Am waiting for Mr Hare to get me prices on new filters. :whip:

Then I reassemble and kick the b*tch over! :hi5:
