Not having done this route before and personally knowing any of the guys who have ridden it. Its hard to say exactly what would be the best bike.
I think my 650 thumper will be about perfect for twisty pavement, dirt roads, and easy/open trails. Though Im sure I will be looking at the 450's with a little envy in the tougher single track sections. Especially when having the pick up the bike.

I was actually a little more undecided about what gear to wear. One piece Aerostich Roadwarrior? Or klim pants, jersey, and pressure suit?
Ill wear my dirt helmet and boots either way.

If I make it, I suspect I'll do dirt helmet (ECE only...anyone got a Harley DOT sticker?), dirt pants, and pressure suit with probably a cheap mesh riding jacket over it or maybe just a cheap mesh jacket with armor. I'd probably leave the knee guards at home, but I might invest in gore-tex socks since a week of 8 hour days with wet feet gets old fast. Kentucky in June is bound to be hot and humid, so maybe a mesh jacket and armor would be the best option. I've got motorcycle variety Frogg Toggs I can throw on the bike if it wants to rain.

Can we skip that motel where they make meth, leave needles in the beds, and only turn on the hot water at a drip?

I'm interested in Riding the KAT trail, I have a DRZ 400, extra large tank. One question I have is where do we park are main vehicles, for the 5-6 day trip.
