Free ATV And Dirt Bike Safety Training For All Ages, June 13-14, 2015

Sponsored by Pennsylvania Off-Highway Vehicle Association, ATV Safety Institute, Motorcycle Safety Foundation, and Department of Conservation Natural Resources
PaOHV Safety Weekend is about promoting The Rules of the Trail. The first step towards safe ATV and Dirt Bike riding is taking a certified rider course. PaOHV Safety Weekend is June 13th and 14th, at the Anthracite Outdoor Adventure Area in Northumberland County, a 6,500 acre motorized and non-motorized recreation facility. AOAA’ s welcome center is located at 4100 State Route 125, Coal Township Pennsylvania, 17866-7806. This facility is a great place to learn and ride. The sponsors are offering free training to adults, kids, and families in Pennsylvania. Saturday will be the ATV training day. Both ASI and DCNR classes will be taught. Classes will be offered throughout the day with the first class starting at 9:00 am and the last ending at 4:00 pm on the 13th. Sunday, June 14th will be dedicated to Dirt Bike training through the MSF Closed Course certified program with classes being offered from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm. PaOHV, ASI, MSF, and DCNR can think of no better way than to offer classes at no charge to participants. They invite everyone with an ATV or Dirt Bike to meet the instructors, have some fun, and learn how to ride safely.

The Rules of the Trail
1. Take an OHV Safety Course
2. Wear Approved Safety Gear
3. Respect Riding Area Rules, Other Users, and PA Law
4. Ride in Control and Within Your Abilities
5. Ride with Landowner’s Permission and Respect Others
6. Obey Signage
7. Let Someone Know Where You are Going and When You Will Return
8. Always Stay on the Trail and Never Chase Wildlife
9. Use and Maintain an Approved Spark Arrestor
10. Never Ride Under the Influence of Alcohol and Drugs

According to the Consumer Product Safety Commission, “All-Terrain Vehicles may present a risk of death or severe injury in certain circumstances.” Over 3500 people, including many children, have died in accidents associated with ATV’s since 2004. Many people have become severely paralyzed or suffered severe injuries as a result of accidents associated with OHV’s. Every month thousands of people are treated in hospital emergency rooms for injuries received while riding an OHV. Accidents occur for many reasons. It is PaOHV’s hopes that these numbers will decrease as more people take a certified safety course. For more information on PaOHV Safety Weekend call 717-532-6439.

Help Wanted
PaOHV is looking for volunteers to help with its Safety Week on June 13th & 14th. Positions ranging from Greater to Instructor are needed. No experience required just the desire to help make the operation of OHVs safer. For more information on PaOHV Safety Weekend call 717-532-6439.

That is a tough call. Reluctant as in afraid or doesn't like riding? It is never a good idea to force a child to do anything but if she need more skills to feel comfortable. Then this is a great way to help her along. So just ask her if you would like to come or not and we will go from there.
