I have been having problems with the server running out of resources and giving errors. It is better but I'm still getting some periodically. Please report any you get to me at ken@kyler.com.

what is fascinating is how the table and mill head move together to make some cuts

That is wild. Most of the cost of your helmet would be to pay for that machine.

One of my street bike buddies who works here where I do is a 5 Axis operator. He went to school for weeks to learn how to use the machine. A single bit cost 10's of thousands of dollars. The machines are millions. We have the 5 axis milling machines, 5 axis water jets so if you think that is cool, then what is REALLY cool is the Wire EDM machines!
Lots of cool bikes---

That looks awesome! I want one now. Don't know what I'd use it for, well, I mean, cutting stuff of course, but I don't know what I'd make.Firebolter wrote:so if you think that is cool, then what is REALLY cool is the Wire EDM machines!

Wow, that's more money than I could have conceived of. What are you making to make up for the cost of those machines?

Satellite hardware, all kinds of Aeronautical type stuff where precision and absolute weight/space is premium kinda stuff.Marylander wrote:Wow, that's more money than I could have conceived of. What are you making to make up for the cost of those machines?
I go down there when I have time to watch my buddy work these machines and see some of the cool stuff they make. The micro electronic stuff they create with these machines is astonishing.
The bit tray in the 5 axis mill has over 30 bits in it and they are worth alot. They also have some of the new 3D printers and are experimenting with producing/printing parts in derlon first, then once perfected, drop the program over into the 5 Axis machines and start punching the parts out in the appropriate metal.

I thought it might be things like that. Yep, that is money outside of my comprehension and some amazing engineering.
