When we came back for lunch Billygoat noticed some oil on my boot. Upon examination of the bike, sure enough some thing had driven the shifter through the side case and opened up about an inch and a half crack. The crazy thing is I have no idea how it happened. There was one time I do remember feeling a tree kinda graze my boot as I went by a little too close; I guess some how the shifter took the impact and what I felt on my boot was the secondary blow. I just don't know, I am sure I never dropped it all day. Luckily the dip stick still showed oil on it so I didn't do any lasting damage to the engine after riding it like this all morning.

I am trying to decide rather to JB weld it or spend the $130 for a new side case. Part of the case on one side of the cracj is kinda pushed in maybe 1/8th of an inch so I am not sure how close it could be to anything inside that is important (like the stator for example) since I have never been inside the case on this bike. I know JB Weld is good stuff but it will nag at me every time I see it; I will probably spend the coin..
If you want stronger shifter, I'd make sure to check out the "Hammerhead Designs" one...It looks beefy but expensive.

I have one on my 450 if anyone wants to see it.

i've been told that Viagra helps with "stronger shifting" too ... just sayin' ...

I just received the dirt version of my monthly AMA magazine and guess who is on the front cover!! It was a very nice article about about Rich and his son and his Dad and their riding; they actually all 3 rode an enduro last year on the same minute line. Three generations on the same line; how cool is that!!

I really enjoyed meeting Rich and his school.

I checked the AMA's web site and it doesn't look like they have the on-line version published yet, it is still last's month's. I will try to post a link when it is available....
