My son will be riding this. He is a good rider but not much true off road experience on a bike. He has a XR650L. What rear tire to use?
three choices-
MT43
Dunlop 606
Heidenau K60

?????????????????????
I'd run the 606 or something like maxxis or michelin desert. It's hard packed gravel for the most part you can have allot of fun sliding the back around on the gravel roads.

For those arriving Friday, we'll be having a pitch-in at DAMN HQ (aka site C-1).

Food List is:
  1. Bucho - world famous BuchoBrats
  2. Kyler - chips and sauerkraut for the brats
  3. Bonehead - venison chilli

Zephyr and I hope to be there by 1500 on Friday afternoon. I will have Ken's trailer w/ me. Depending on weather I may or may not set up Ken's mobile garage/kitchen/chowhall/rainy weather hangout.

Honestly, what ever is the cheapest. This event eats tires, so I wouldn't waste money on a really good tire as much as make sure the air pressure is set to minimum 12 lbs out back. We recommend 15lbs to minimize flats. Unless it rains constantly, traction is not a problem! And there is no rain in the forecast---so far!

I am a trials tire guy, but if I was changing a tire for this event it would be a heavy wall knob just because you can throw a few zip ties on a flat knob and limp it back if reasonably close....no chance in hell of riding a trials tire flat.
