I was purusing CL and found a guy with a 2003 TW200 that won't start looking to trade for $1000 or another bike. I have the Xt350 project in my garage (runs, everything is ok), emailed him, and he's down to trade. So, what say the board? 1987 XT350 for a 2003 TW200 that won't start a fair trade? If I kept the XT my plan was to finish it, bedline it black, and race RallyMoto on it next season (I think I'm finally there). Of course, the TW200 would be fun to race as well, but not likely as competively as the XT. (XT 27HP at 330 lbs, and the TW 16HP at 265 lbs).
Any thoughts?

Re: TW-200 for a XT350
If you can get the tw running. I'd get that.... Personally neither bike would be that great for rallmoto IMHO, but I get the wrung what you brung mentality. The tw would be fun, it's street legal, electric start (vs the xt), and has low seat height. I know several folks who got em a learners for kids and spouses, but kept em for numerous different reasons. It d also be easier to sell if you wanted to change up to something different

I have the 950SE - which may or may not stick around. I just can't see tossing that big expensive bike at RallyMoto. I'm looking at a BMW ST or RT to replace it so I can start riding to work again (100+ mile round trip), then a small dirt bike for racing. I picked the XT up for pennies.
Re: TW-200 for a XT350
I had a TW.
Good "wife" bike.
Easy to ride, nice to haul kids around on.
Odds are it could just be old gas in the carb causing it not to start.
Mine was a PIA to start if it set for any period of time, drain the old gas from the carb and it would start.
Sounds like a good deal for you and yes they are easy to sell so no problem with future resale.

Re: TW-200 for a XT350
I feel ya. I am not riding my big KTM that much, and I don't want to throw it down the road either, that why I have the xr.. While I love the xr, as I get into the tighter stuff, I am wishing more and more for something easier to manhandle. While the xt is an awesome bike, i just think there would be more appeal to having a tw... I forget who it was, but at what started the DAMN reunion ride at taskers gap, someone was tearing it up on onethe dude himself wrote:I have the 950SE - which may or may not stick around. If I had to choose one or the other, I'd go with the XT. Gotta love more power & wouldn't suspension be about equal if not more travel on XT? Now on other hand if for the wife, I'd go with the tw. my .02

i have owned both a tw and an xt, 5 speed for the tw, 6 speed for the xt, the xt was faster but the tw was impossible to crash, both were fun bikes, that's a toss up

Re: TW200 for a XT350
Spent a few hours last night getting the crazy twin carb XT dialed in. A 1 banger with a CV carb and a second vacuum carb attached to the side of it and no vacuum ports - no wonder the idle is impossible to get dialed in. The bike's got some pull - but I can't imagine the TW being any less fun. Starting to think about a crazy ride to rally ride: T-Dub it down to SC, run the SBR, and T-Dub home. If they give away trophies for insanity this might do it.
