my family spent yesterday out at HMI with Grady`s family. What a great time we had. Maybe Grady will post some pics?
So we (Grady and I) were talking about how cool it would be to have an island camp out! Hey technically its offrode. Bring your boat, kayak out, Maybe ask nicely and someone may give you a ride. Its time for an Island camp out!
I know the riding season is going to pick up soon. Grady do you have any ideas on dates? Anyone interested?

Nothing legal. There is a paved road and a few dirt roads, but I don't even know if they're legal since they're only used for service vehicles. It's only accessable by boat, so I'm not sure about motor vehicle laws on the island, but I imagine they're prohibited. On the plus side, DNR has to come by boat too, so sneaking a night ride could be a possibility, but there's no where to hide if they do come. I'm sure the penalties would out weigh the fun, being a small flat island.

Where is HMI?
HMI is in the Chesapeake Bay on the eastern side of Baltimore county near the mouth of Middle river. Although I haven't paddled it yet, it seemes like a fairly easy paddle from Rocky Point State Park, which is the closest public water access to the island.

Cool place. I've never paddled "open water", mostly reservoirs and lakes. How far do you think it is across?

I busted out my chart and divider for you...
From rockypoint it's about .67nm to land and around 1.5nm to where the bathrooms are on hart-miller.
