Almost killed today!

Post by Bucho » Sun Feb 06, 2011 5:24 pm

While out for a ride today, I had a close encounter. I was on Baptist Road near Taneytown. Its a nice twisty road and I was enjoying the curves. As I go into a left hander, an suv coming the other way crosses the double yellow line by at least three or four feet. I run wide but actually make contact w/ the car as I go by. I manage to keep it on the pavement and finish the corner. I coasted to a stop, happy to still be on two wheels. I glance back and of course the suv kept going.
Now I get pissed and I spin around and start going after it. I find her sitting at the stop sign at the intersection of 140. I start to roll up next to her to give her a piece of my mind. She glances back and sees me. She floors it and takes off.
I considered chasing her down and busting her sideview mirror, but decided to just let it go.

Note the broken plastic around the edge of my mirror.

Dang Phil! You exercised huge amounts of restraint by not retaliating.

Glad you are OK.

Sure glad it was not more serious.
You have far more control than me, I would have chased her untill I had the plate then made a phone call.

Glad you're OK. I don't think I would have had that same level of self control.

Glad you kept it upright. Running wide with the cinders can be a challenge.

Wow! Glad you're okay. More restraint than me. I would have gotten the plate and called the cops. Honestly, it's not like you're going to be able to stop the SUV with your bike, so the plate and a phone call is about all you can do.

Man Bucho that is some scary stuff. I used to ride Hwy 1 in Cali when I lived in San Fran and that happened all the time with cagers crossing over in a turn, and most of the time without such good results.

REALLY glad to hear you are ok.
