So this is an offroad dualsport ride. Is there enough wide open dirtroad and fireroads that I should be bringing the DR and leaving the two-stroke at home?

Either bike would be fine, there are places where whichever bike you are on you will wish for the other. If it was me, I would bring the 2 smoker and an extra gas tank with pre mix, they will pre-position it for you at a mid point part of the ride.

If riding all the options you will want the smoker, if not then the DR will be the best choice. If riding both days you may want to take both bikes and ride the options saturday and have a easier day sunday on the DR. I can see this as the new DAMN war cry. Ken is trekking down a rough super nasty piece of single track. As he is about to give up, he suddenly screams, "TOA!!!!!", then wheelies over the next obstacle and keeps going...

Sounds like Bucho bumped his head or he was sampling the goodies from the evidence room 
I think "Team Bengay" might be more in line if all options are ridden
