 I must not have ridden this yet...no beach ball sized boulders? :lol2:

When we were there Ken, we only took the easy part out. On the way back we did the "option" w/ boulders.

Nah, my rule of thumb, if there is any asphalt involved+no single track, the DRZ wears the street tires. On rides that are dedicated to off road i.e. trips to Granville's, Taskers', most trips to Greenridge, or anywhere else that I will be trailering the bike, she gets the knobs. But, like Bucho said, when in doubt, just ask.

Here is how I learned to change tubes on the road:

Maybe not the best way but it was educational.

Welcome to the group!!

If you plan on changing tires for different rides I would recommend one of these. I prefer to ride more aggressive tires on dirt only rides, and with a nice wheel stand switching tires isn't so bad. Not very portable though

See you on the trails!

I'm still working on some of the details of my tire repair kit, like what to do without a big & heavy torque wrench, but I'll figure it out. There are a lot of products to break the bead of a tire. I just want to keep it simple and not bring a lot with me. I'd like to be self sufficient on the road, so if I need to change my tire tube, I don't need something I left in my garage. So instead of a wheel stand, I'll rest the wheel on my pelican cases (assuming I'll buy those cases  ). Well, maybe I'll buy a wheel stand...just to save my lower back. But you get the idea.....I don't want to carry all this shit with me and be some billboard for Touratech. :sheep:

When it's not butt-cold outside, I'm going practice tire changing with irons in my garage. Hopefully I won't poke my eye out. 8-)

I'm looking forward to riding with you folks and I hope to learn as much as I can!

Im not saying its cheap, but look into picking up a second set of wheels. Quite a few of us have our offroad/knobby wheels and our street/dualsport set.

The other option is to get a smaller/lighter "real" dirtbike for the offroad, as Ken mentioned.

Oh yea, you can trust Boom Boom for a nice easy beginners rock ride :knary:

Some people think he's called Boom Boom because he's a Master Blaster. :nono:

It comes from the sound of his n00bs falling on rocks and bouncing down rock strewn hillsides :amazon:

Yes, the wheel stand stays at the garage / shed and is not portable. It reduces the risk of pinching a tube and finding out while on your ride. Once on the ride, Wingfixer has the pic for that. There is no easy way. The stand will save your lower back though
