dirty the place in shippensburg is country rentals
they do everything there but hand in the paperwork,
Get the bike legal, DOT tires, brake switch front and rear, chain guard, left mirror, and the usuall BD ds kit, and speedo
they take pics of all four sides, do the inspection, fill out the paperwork
you take everything to a messenger service or penndot
mine to one week (5 business days) for the messenger service to call me and say my registration is in to come pick it up, then I just took it to my local guy for an inspection sticker, dont forget to get insurance on it before you hand in the paperwork

Does the speedo need a light and does the Baja designs kit hardwire in to keep the battery charged?

Not much juice from the OEM stator, I know, but other designs have a removable rechargeable battery.

From BD website:
"On kickstart models, these accessories includes a small nicad battery & rectifier/regulator."

Translation? :lol2:

YMMV, but the speedo on my WR400 is not lit. It makes it a real pain when riding at night. I'll be honest and say I usually don't follow the speed limit, but if I'm speeding I want to know by how much. I also don't want to be going under the speed limit because then you get pulled over on suspicion of being drunk and "my speedometer doesn't have a light" just gets you into other trouble. Anyway, I'm not sure the inspector realized my speedo wasn't backlit.

I have the Electrosport unit and while I didn't hook it up myself I did read the instructions. What they mean by that statement you quoted is there is a small battery contained within the unit that is charged via the included regulator/rectifier that comes off of your generator.

Oh, and the kit does keep the battery charged but it's a tiny little thing. I *highly* recommend leaving it on a Battery Tender when you're not riding because it will lose charge over time and will become useless in short order. It also has a hard time keeping up with lights and horn and such. I barely passed inspection because I had to rev the motor to get the horn to work because he sat there with it at idle for a while and like pretty much all motorcycle electronics systems the generator doesn't put out enough amps to charge the battery while at idle. It was only through begging and pleading that he passed me. Another thing of note is that I had to fabricate a "fender" to hang down from the fender to behind the wheel. He took offense to 2' of clearance so I made a rough cut of a piece of plastic to make the distance shorter and bolted it to my license plate bracket. It was actually unsafe to ride like this so I took it back off the bike before leaving the lot. If you're having problems visualizing what I'm talking about, think of the fender/license plate bracket that modern sportbikes have that are easily removed by three screws but there to reduce water spray from the rear tire to pass inspection.

You know, that ugly thing at the back of this -- http://www.yamaha-motorcycles.org/image ... F-R1LE.jpg

Yes on the speedo light, and the stock stator will charge the battery, its when your running the headlight and not just the internal city light (small internal 194 bulb) thats starts testing the stock stator.

and again dirty take it to country rentals in shippensburg

Country Rentals

Ok, so I need to source a speedo with a light. I was looking at the BD speedo, but it doesn't say it has a light. Should I just go with a Tail Tech digital one?
