They don't calculate compression ratio with the same algorythm for 2 strokes as 4 strokes, so the numbers are misleading. When I had a TZ-250, I used a special nut and chuck on a big drill. The special nut went on the crank on the ignition side which was exposed through a hole in the fairings. That motor was a V-twin with very high compression, 250cc and 82hp. I burned up a couple of drills before finding one that lasted.Junior wrote:Yea i know. I was doing three things at once. Junior, the CR500 is a 2 stroke, which has low compression. My guess would be a fresh engine is in the 6-7:1 range.

Re: Wasp eStart
amazing that a drill would spin a 250 but a 3HP starter motor won't spin a 500

Re: Wasp eStart
I'd contact the manufaturer of the starter after checking that your bike is spinning freely. They might have some suggestions on how to hookup the starter to get the 3hp.

That looks like it could go one of two ways. Fingers crossed.

What about using an electric starter for a racing go-kart? They are used on both 2 and 4 stroke set-ups

Re: Wasp eStart
I think my setup will work fine once the compression release is installed. Spinning a 500cc 2-stroke takes a lot of torque and if a starter motor for a 350ci Chevy can't handle it, only something bigger would work!
