Proposed ATV Park - Latest News
by - Ryan Hughes
FRUITLAND, Md. - Organizers in Fruitland brought a proposal in front of City Council members to build an A-T-V Park.
The plan will turn 13 acres of land on St. Lukes road into a place supporters say will benefit the community.
"Instead of going out of state to look for somewhere to ride or in the woods where it's not safe and you're by yourself and you can be harmed, we want to propose a park," said Mary Nelson, a coordinator for the ATV park.
The park would consist of three tracks accessible to four wheelers, dune buggies and dirt bikes.
Before any ATV can hit the dirt, it must pass a safety check and adhere to noise ordinances from the city.
"If you do not pass tech, you cannot enter onto the premises with it," said Dan Nelson, who is also a coordinator for the track.
Organizers say the land off St. Lukes road is an ideal location because with a deep pit and the trees surrounding the track will act as a barrier that will deflect any noise to the surrounding area.
But residents like Joe Jimmerson who lives across the street with his family is not convinced.
"There's going to be a lot of noise associated with it, and it doesn't seem to fit in with the small town of American ideals that Fruitland has," said Jimmerson.
Organizers argue the ATV equipment now is a lot quieter, and traffic along the roadway is louder than an ATV would be.
But the Sales Manager for the development just over the tree line from the park says it will be an eye soar.
"I think it would be negative on the houses that are already up, just not the most appealing thing for this area," said Brandon Ziska with Rowen's Mills development.
Organizers are holding a live demonstration for the proposed park on August 26th to try and put the communities concerns to rest.

American ideals that Fruitland has...

I've been there, it's the lower Eastern shore and it's mostly Mexican migrant workers who work the farms. The kind of town were you could get suspended from high school for wearing an American flag on Cinco de Mayo. :poser:
