Getting prepared for the S-500

Post by biffer99 »

So I'm getting the KLR ready for the Shenandoah 500 and figured I'd share. Today I painted it and changed to a K&N air filter. I'm still waiting on my D606's to show up and then I'll throw those on, change the front sprocket to 14T, replace the rear sprocket, new chain, and some other minor things. Anyway, for painting, I'm going black and hopefully I'll get around to adding some design to it (probably skulls and some reflective KLR badging)... we'll see. But as for now:

All torn apart:

The plastic stripped of stickers, wet sanded and cleaned:

Didn't spend a lot of effort on the backs but made sure the stickers were still visible:

Got the tank back on:

And the air filter:

I'll get some more shots when it's all done and if I end up putting graphics on before the ride. Anyway, that's how I spent my Monday. Meant to do it this weekend but this kept me busy:

Had my first son!! (3 daughters up until now):

Congrats on the boy!

I don't think the DR is gonna get anything special. I might wash the layers of Greenridge mud and NJ sand off of it, maybe...

Thanks! Eh, I'd leave the mud on there...gives it "character." :pimp:

Alright, got her all finished up and I took her for a test run at GR today. Although I am going to have to do a little touchup painting, I am very happy with the new setup. The 14T sprocket is exactly what I needed and is a great compliment to the D606s. This, coupled with the tough looking paint job, it feels like a whole new bike!

The new paint looks good.
The lower gearing works so much better then the stock "street gearing", doesn't it?

Looks like an awesome time but I am scheduled to be gone for work during that time. If my trip gets cancelled I will show.

Thanks. Yeah, the new gear is SOOO much better. It is still just fine on the road - didn't affect much. I don't know how I lived without it until now!

I like the new paint job. I'd paint mind except I'm cultivating the grunge rat KLR look :harhar:
