I have spent alot of time in SE NM and once you get into the mountains, it is pretty awesome. Would love to go ride and camp this area.

yeah, you are south of Crested Butte about 3-4 hours from the top where this starts. You could easily work this into a Montrose trip or the Western side of the state and then come back east on the way home.

I've ridden the Colorado Rockies from Steamboat to Durango including the heart of it in the San Juans and that's really hard to beat for epic vistas and challenging adventure riding. The entire SW is still on my bucket list and one of these days I'd like to ride the Utah, Arizona, and NM BDRs with my camping gear.
