All the places in Matewan are on the main street through town within 2 blocks of each other. Wingo's for dinner and then back porch shine ops post dinner!

Everything's booked, but Black Bear Lodge (friday) is full. Little Abner's is across the street, phone number 606-663-5384 but I ended up with the $120 two-room suite because they are also full. I was told there is a family reunion that weekend, and everyone's old, so they expect people to be canceling. So, since they have a 100% 48-hour cancellation policy, I made my reservation and plan to call both places back periodically for a cheaper room.

I had no problem scheduling at Hatfield McCoy Inn (Wingo's).

But you're going to want to explore options in Slade, KY soon.

Thanks,

BTW, I ordered some waterproof socks that should be arriving tomorrow. I'm hoping to avoid the "warm water immersion foot" that everyone had last time. I'll let people know how they are. Maybe I can get up to FRO to give them a good test ride before then.

I have some of the BMW Hydro socks (Gortex). We'll see how good they work!

Gear Q:
I have road riding gear. (RevIt Sand IIRC)
I have off road gear. (Leatt 3DF Airfit jersey + shorts armor. Wear typical pants and a mx jesey over them.)
I'm new to this ADV stuff. On my first true dual-sport moto-camping trip last mo, I just wore the dirt armor & gear, and threw on my jacket shell overtop when we got to the road stages. I'd rather not destroy a $$$ jacket wrecking in the woods (which I do often) and there is a lot more road on the KAT so this constant stopping to swap may be impractical. I probably need to pick up some sort of ADV jacket... Something waterproof is probably a good buy too.

caveat: I'm very prone to heat exhaustion / heat stroke. I'm very wary of wearing a road jacket in the woods. Esp in the middle of July!

For a waterproof layer I could pickup a simple thin jacket like this (Thor Pack Jacket):

I still have the old similar-style PVC waterproof pull-over pants I can pack. But that isn't any road protection.

I could go at little heavier duty to something like the Leatt GPX 4.5 Lite. Only water 'resistant' but you sweat in them anyway so not being 100% waterproof matter?

Or should I just go full out and step into something like the Klim Dakar vented shell for better road protection and still pack a super lightweight rain shell?

Do you folks typ stop and gear up/down when you get to the road stages?

I'm also looking into buying an ADV helmet. Love my Fly F2 mips helmet since it fits my super skinny head but getting hit by raindrops around the goggles at speed *SUCKS*. I read the Bell mx9 adventure mips is one of the thinner ones available so will go try one on. Edit: Sigh, Bell MX9 is too short front to back. So I'll prob have to stick w/ my Fly & goggles:(

The Rocky Mountain house brand ARC isn't bad for the price. I have the first gen Battle Born jacket, which isn't waterproof at all, but the current generation is. I had the 2nd gen pants that worked pretty well, but I gave them away when they no longer fit. They also have a $40 packable waterproof shell.

I have a small waterproof jacket for rain, but I don't wear a jacket unless it is cold time of the year. I just wear my dirt gear.
