southern MADBR April 13-14
southern MADBR April 13-14
Sorry for the short notice. Weather looks good. Ill be riding the southern most part until I get on rt 33 to come home in Warrenton. There will be a safe place to park a vehicle at my parents in Dublin Va if you would like to ride back down there next Wednesday to retrieve your vehicle. A Freshman at Va Tech has me busy traveling down there all month April. Next week is Hatfield Mccoy

Re: southern MADBR April 13-14
Let us know how it goes. Pics and at least a short ride report.
I'm not sure when I'll have a couple days again to get out and do it. Kinda pissed the weather just didn't cooperate for us last month.

Re: southern MADBR April 13-14
The weather two weeks ago was a no brainer no go.
I plan on using this route to ride to Hatfield and back. Maybe while camping. At any rate I will enjoy 80 degree weather.

Re: southern MADBR April 13-14
I'm about half way thru the 3rd leg. I started from Dublin at rt 100, but I am exhausted!!! The 3rd leg is at least 50% gravel. More than the paper map shows. My Garmin is poo but luckily I have the tracks on my phone. No way would you be able to follow the route by paper map. Too many unmarked roads to take. Still planning to make it to Warrenton but it will be late.

Re: southern MADBR April 13-14
Yes I was tired. I was no where near Morgantown. Also I was traveling north so the 3rd leg Started in Covington and ends in Moorefield. So yeah I was tired, wrong and very happy! I had no idea how many 100s of miles of gravel and trails that are open to all licensed vehicles in both George Washington and Jefferson National Forests.

My ride report with pictures"
Started at 10:20 from Clator Lake, Dublin Va, the weather was perfectly clear in the 70s. I have never ridden by tracks alone, I have yet to have any luck with using tracks on my Garmin (works great on Base Camp), and I have never riden this far out by myself, never ridden any of the MABDR. I had a tool kit and 3 bottles of water.
I rode 20 miles north on rt 100 till almost Pearisburg. This is where I started the MABDR and I rode this tight tar and chip to Newport where the first Leg ends. Here was the slickest of any of the Asphalt because of the fine gravel in the hairpins.
Eventually I found Mountain Lake lodge which is where the gravel began for me after around 50 miles. Gravel here was fast and much appreciated then short asphalt till gravel the tub run.
Tub Run is a great 21 mile very tight trail. Every right was hanging over a cliff and every left was into the mountain side.
After a short asphalt run we get on red brush rd which turns into nimrod road. This is fast gravel with trails and gravel roads going off into many different directions including Potts Jeep trail.
Im not sure if my 7 or so pics show up so Ill continue in a bit...

The middle picture above is Eggleston before Newport. The third is of Mountain Lake and it was very low.
I added three pics below which go with my first bit of a ride report above.
