Fixing XR650L

Post by J&J »

So my 650 smoked like crazy on start up at the Shenandoah 500 Sunday after all day riding Saturday. Only done it one time a little since. But I'm going to take it apart to check it out. And since I'm taking it apart I'm going to fix the piston size while I'm there... Got one on order :killingme:

I understand a little port and polish work goes a long way on that motor. Something to think about while you have it apart! you are doing the head anyway. throw a stone to it and clean up the ports.

Don't have it apart yet so I haven't seen what it looks like but.... I can't take the valves out of anything without at least a little blending behind the seats & smoothing out the rough spots

5-angle those valve seats, full port and polish, SS valves, and heavy springs...

 I'm a cheap skate, errr ahhh frugal like Skinny Jay. I'll have to see what it looks like, hoping the valves still seal & the guides are tight. I might just lap em back in with new seals. It supposedly had a new top end when I bought it.... I think the added size & compression will give me enough performance increase....

Nah really, my buddy is a cylinder head nut so we'll prolly be doing it up :killingme:
