Trails To Ride Near Lavale and Frostburg, MD

Post by KTMcaleb »

I am originally from Cecil County Maryland on the MD/ DE/ PA line and I
have been riding at St. Clair RAC riding area, and Rausch creek since I was
old enough to walk, formally known as Tower City trail riders, Inc. My
question is, now that I live out in Frostburg and have for about 3 years (
I am attending the University), I am looking everywhere for places to ride.
I own a KTM 250exc, and love to ride very challenging single track and hard
trails in the mountains, that is what I am accustomed to. All around the
Frostburg-Cumberland area, I see trails on the top of every mountain and
along side of every rode and I am wondering how to get to them, who owns
them and rides on them? The Country Club Mall area is a great example, it
is off of EXIT 39 on i68-WEST, and from the parking lot of the mall and the
local Walmart, you can see massive trails and hill climbs surrounding the
entire city of Lavale, and I constantly see dirtbikes on these trails right
up to the back of the local sheetz in frostburg!!! So, im hoping you or
someone you know has knowledge about where these trailheads are located and
how to get to them. If you are not familiar with these trails, look at the
Country Club Mall in Lavale, MD on GOOGLE EARTH and look at the massive
amounts of trails there!!! I see so many people riding on them too, yet,
its so little known of to anyone who I seem to talk to locally in this
area. Do you know anything about mx trails in my area? or know anyone or
any locals who would know all of the secrets? I am familiar with Greenridge
Forest and Tomohawk, but im looking specifically for these trails, and
massive hillclimbs in front and behind the country club mall, the Lowes in
Lavale and the entire town of frostburg. Thanks, I look forward to becoming
a member. Cheers.

Caleb Campbell.

Jocker graduated FSU last year, but he still visits the campus and has riding buds in the area. We are planning a camp and ride very near you in mid April. Look for "Granville's Western MD Camp & Ride", sounds like you will fit right in

That sounds awesome guys, I read the post about the last Granville ride and it sounds pretty DAMN cool. Id love to be a part of that the next time you guys go on some rides. As far as some local trails go, I have spoken with Joker and I think I will be checking out some of the trail routes that run in between Frostburg and Midland, MD. There is a huge network of trails back that way as well that I have seen many riders on. Have you been up to St. Clair, PA? a few miles away from Frackville, PA? its a huge area with hundreds of miles of trails about 15-18 miles north Past Tower City (exit 107) off of i81. great place for a big group to ride and some of the nastiest hills I ever did see.

Sounds like some good riding opportunities. Probably not completely legal but if nobody cares than does it really matter?
Report back to us with you findings. Or at least pm me.

There is some mean single track woven into the ridges of old coal piles back in dem woods. Been 2 years since I have been through. Sadly I think the trails are all but lost. There was a mean ice storm that created impassable deadfall. Chainsaw was needed to open it back up. PM you can go check.

One more place......no single track, but Wolfs Den is not to far from you in Kitzmiller. It's like 10 bucks a day to ride.
