Re: Hatfield-McCoy trip, April 16-19
be sure one of you carry a small folding hand saw. Some of the trails have been affected by construction on the tops of some of the ridges. Last time we rode, we came up to the end of a trail where you pop out on the road by a cell tower or some power thingy they had constructed and the bull dozing had pushed a bunch of small trees and such over the trail where you could not get out. Took us about 30-45 min to cut a path out. Would have sucked to have to turn around and ride that particular trail backwards. Trail maint down at Buffalo has been lacking and with it being spring, there will be growth and possible stuff like we ran into. You guys have fun!
Lots of cool bikes---

Yup, I carry a Silky folding saw on all trail rides. Have spent more time trying to get around/over crap than I would have spent cutting it out of the way in the past.
I'd love to come out but I have a race that weekend.

I got my bike out yesterday and worked on it a bit.
New Shiny Parts.
Between that and the suspension work I had done this fall it should be a whole different ride.

You teach yourself to work on bikes when you were a kid? Turn em upside to work on em?

My sister is now leaving on Wednesday evening.
Looks like I can make it if there is a bed available to rent.
Looks like I can car pool with Jed.
If anyone has a bed, please let me know.

Whoa, that was fun!

Glad to see you are getting some good armor on your bike. Though I feel that most of Buffalo Mtn really isn't that rocky, though there is more than enough to warrant a skidplate. I plan on doing 199 and I recall a few rocky parts.

Is there a semi-private way we could post up our phone numbers to connect with others should we have problems on the way, while we're there, etc. or to meet up to find food/gas/alcohol? My first thought is private message or email, but there might also be a way to make a private section of the forum for contact information only available to logged in members.
