FWIW- I am a member of several closed groups, including DAMN, on FB and almost all of my activity happens in those groups.

I post something once a month or every 6 weeks just to remind those in my regular friends list that I am still around. Otherwise, I am just clicking likes on others' statuses. It's a great way to keep in touch with long distance family members and friends from far off lands.
