Trans American Trail
Re: Trans American Trail
From Towson to Salida and back took me 22 days. Spent 3 days going down the BRP and through Deal's Gap to Jellico. From Jellico, TN to Salida, CO, I spent 10 days on the trail. Probably could have done it in 8 or 9 if I really pushed, but whats the point in doing that... I also didn't hit any weather and mostly rode on dry roads and sunshine. Add mucho time if it rains and gets muddy...
I spent 2 nights in Salida to explore and hand with my dad who drove down from Washington state, and a day at Pikes Peak, before taking 5 back across, stopping for 2 nights in Bardstown KY to do some bourbon drinking.
On the TAT I averaged around 275-300 miles a day in the flats, 50-100 less in the mountains. On pavement I averaged 350-450 miles a day. In the future I plan on not planning around mileage and just riding.

Re: Trans American Trail
I just returned last week from riding the Eastern TAT, May 27th through June 5th. My buddy and I had limited time and we actually rode down to Jellico to start the trail. We had some trouble with his KLR's air filter and so we lost about a day and a half, but we still made it to eastern Oklahoma. I'm going back next year to finish the route... I am going to resume from the exact place where we had to knock off.
I am planning a ride report this weekend.
It's an amazing trip and frankly, the eastern portion is just a warm-up for Colorado and Utah. But that being said, the Ozarks are an amazing stretch of trails.
