Re: MD Motorcycle Inspection Requirements
meh. There really is a requirement for an odometer. Given that "odometer inaccurate or inoperative" is a checkbox on the title application and there had never been an accident due to an odometer, this seems stupid.

Re: MD Motorcycle Inspection Requirements
Not sure what the question is???
The reason they have to check the ODO is so sellers with over 100k can't claim it as less < 100k. It's really only there to protect buyers from fraud.

Re: MD Motorcycle Inspection Requirements
I don't see how fraud detection is possible when the odometer likely won't move in the few dozen feet they ride the bike while checking the brakes. Besides, there's a big "WARNING" note next to the check box on the title when you check that the odometer doesn't work and/or the mileage exceeds the mechanical limits of the odometer.
But it doesn't matter. I eventually figured out how to get the display to show distance even though they didn't notice it actually said "lap" for lap distance. ;)

I had to put on one of those small baja speedos with back light! OIY! They said the little digital bicycle ones would not do, must have permanent millage. (really? Cant unscrew cable?) I miss the original odo , because you can set at any mileage, in case of wrong turn on roll chart & must restart at a given point @ given mileage.

Re: MD Motorcycle Inspection Requirements
Technically they are supposed to take it up to 20mph to test the brakes.

Re: MD Motorcycle Inspection Requirements
They sure do, but the odometer still won't move on such a short distance. :)

Re: MD Motorcycle Inspection Requirements
I think it all depends on where you take it. Bike shops are usually the most strict, they want to sell you stuff or charge you to fix stuff. A local gas station that does mc inspections is usually the easiest/ most lienient.
Re: MD Motorcycle Inspection Requirements
My MXC200 just has the little BD speedo/odo that rezeroes everytime you ride. Ellicott City Motorsports didn't have an issue with that. They just checked off the inaccurate mileage box on the inspection form.phoo wrote:meh. There really is a requirement for an odometer. The only grief they gave me was about not having a chain guard. Then I showed the requirements to the mechanic that say "if it had one originally" or something to that effect and he agreed it didn't need one.
I don't think he enjoyed the test ride though. I don't think my little 200 was quite what he expected when he got on the gas.

Re: MD Motorcycle Inspection Requirements
I've tried to get a Sherco 300 SEF/R and had it fail for lack of a "side stand kill switch"
Keep in mind I can find no such requirement in COMAR as listed above or at the the Federal level. Further, Sherco does not make said switch nor does the after market even have one for Sherco.
Am I crazy or they are just failing it to fail it?
