Gambrills State Forest Ride
Gambrills State Forest Ride
Here's some pics of my ride today. I almost dropped the DAMN bike crossing the creek! Yikes! So, I'll just have to go back and practice that some more!
I did see some critters. There was a live skunk in the middle of the road. DAMN thing was sitting between the edge of the road and a big mud hole. The only clean route was right where it was sitting. Yes, I let him have the right-of-way. Sorry, no pics of the skunk.

- We made it! YES! But I promise, I would have taken a picture of it in the water had I dropped it mid-ford.

That looks pretty cool. How many miles of legal trails are over there. It's so close to Baltimore, might be a good place to explore.
Thanks

Re: Gambrills State Forest Ride
It has one loop that is about 20 miles of gravel. The track I rode today is below. The ford is over Steep Creek and marked on the map.

Re: Gambrills State Forest Ride
How did you like Hawbottom Road? It is very short but fun.
Sorry I missed it. If it wasn't Easter Sunday would have been easier to get out for ride. Actually when we got home and put the baby down for a nap, I stayed home to watch the baby and I let my wife take her bike for a short spin.

Hawbottom was fun. I enjoyed Delauter, Fishing Creek and Moutaindale roads as well.Bucho wrote:How did you like Hawbottom Road? It is very short but fun.

Looking forward to the next time!

Hey Ken,
Any way you could post or e-mail me your track log or route? I have mountain biked in Gambrils before and would love to DS it sometime.
Thanks

Re: Gambrills State Forest Ride
Rider,
Are all those trails in Gambrill open to regular vehicular traffic, or just for ORVs or what?
A 20 mile loop sounds like it is worth checking out. How do you get there -- just go in the regular park entrance off Rt 40 outside Frederick and look for signs?
Are there other "regular" asphalt roads that intersect the 20 mile loop?

Re: Gambrills State Forest Ride
they are all public roads. There is some asphalt. Easiest entrance is to take Gamrill Park Rd off of 40 and follow it as far as it will go. Takes you out of the park but there is plenty of gravel and fun up there. Look for the junction of Delauter Rd and Fishing Creek Rd - there is a ford on Delauter.Panther wrote:Rider,

Re: Gambrills State Forest Ride
Panther, (incase you are looking at a map or something), I don't believe any of those dirtroads are actually in Gambril State Park. However take Gambril Park Road into the Frederick County (or city?) Watershed area. That is where most of the dirtroads are, including that nice creek crossing.
I'm probably gonna head over there this Sat or Sun for a short ride.
