Engine died - guess what is wrong?

HI all.

Went riding last weekend and had a major issue that stopped my day. I had been noticing the power on my bike was lacking lately, seemed almost like the clutch was not releasing as when I would give it full throttle it just didn't get very scary. Anyway in the video you can see when she finally croaks... I was full throttle in 5th gear, power just completely died and the engine stalled. E start just clicks and kick start is stuck. After loading up and taking home I pulled both side cases and the valve cover. Didn't notice anything crazy although I fully admit I am not a great mechanic. I called JT motorsports in Frederick and they currently have it. No diag yet.

Just wondering if you guys can take some guesses as to what it might be?? Any advice moving forward??

Take a look at the video. You can hear the lack of "get it" and about 1:37 there seems to be the lock up.

I couldn't tell from the video but would it turn over by kicking it?

No the kick start would not budge.

By the way this is not a how do I fix it post. Just gathering some thoughts so please take a stab at what your thought is. I will update once I know.

Hard to say what seized the motor but I have the same bike so I'm quite interested in the final diagnosis.

I'm going with either dropped a valve or seized rod bearing, based on the sound I thought I could hear on the video right before it died.

Either way I think you're about to find out what KTM really stands for*. Sorry dude.

harumph. My 2007 was trouble free other than the replacement of kickstands. :duel:

Update: Well not really....

JT called and said the motor has to be pulled out and opened up. :censored: They found metal shavings in the flywheel.

Hoping its the piston, Hoping its not the crank. Contemplating if I should end the experiment should it be the crank. Open to suggestions... serious ones

Possibly sell as is for parts and buy newused. Fix up and hope for the best. Ugh, dirt bikes suck.

Look at this on eBay http://www.ebay.com/itm/302355828034

30 seconds worth of searching.

Maybe see what Jim has to say first, he won't steer you wrong.
