Help if you can..

Post by Damage Inc. »

Does anyone know a KTM tech?

I'm trying to set the x dimension(piston height) on my sons '08 65sx. I found the KTM tool for 66.00 plus shipping but I hate to put that money out for something I'll only use once. He'll be moving up to an 85 sometime this season. I have checked the squish with soft solder and found it to be either .030 or .033 depending on which gasket I use, those are the two that came in the gasket kit. I guess the question is...Is there a way of checking this without the special tool? I have depth gauges and mics and such...I build automotive engines. What exactly are we checking...the protrusion of the piston to the deck? at the top of the crown? edge of piston? piston crown to head? I have asked this on that KTM forum and gotten no response as well TTalk in the KTM 2 stroke sub forum. I have a manual for an '09, are they the same? it appears the gauge is the same from '03 up to ??? KTM p/n 46129006100 listed in the manual. listing shows adjusting plate for '03. in the '09 manual so I guess they would be the same.

Any help would be appreciated.

I'd recommend going on KTMTALK.COM - Should be able to find the info with a search OR just ask the question.
