KLX 400 speedo/electrics

Post by Laoch »

So...last year my speedo crapped out, common for KLX/DRZs. I wasn't worried, I just used the GPS.
Then in the middle of the Michaux DS my whole bike died, well battery crapped out. I hot wired the stator, checked a few things and figured it was ok. Not so, I can ride for an hour or so bike fires up and then out of the blue, I get nothing. I guess it's a loose wire or bad ground. A good ole kick statre for back up would be nice.

Any way I'm gonna stick a Vapor Endurance 2 on the thing and double check all the wires again.

Any insight on DRZ electrical gremlins?
Anybody use vapors?

The stator is probably bad. When mine died, I got a spark it was just mistimed.

Yeah...I'm gonna run thru all the tests again. Thx interwebs.

So...at idle I'm losing volts 12.5 and going down...at 3k rpm hitting 13.5.

Pulled the 3 yellow wire plug from stator and only hitting 25-30 volts in each wire...should be 60-75 or something. i guess I can re[place stator and see what happens.

I'm still going to mount up new Vapor...not sure about turn indicators and other dash lights.

I have the vapor and like it. I pulled it off my WR (where I also had the remote switch to make mileage adjustments easier) and I'm putting it onto my naked street bike.

Stuck on the Endurance II. Decent fit, sensor is kinda funky, I still have to play with the magnetic bolt o the caliper and test things.
I zip tied the OEM dash lights for now

This again :frustrated:

Riding Michaux today and bike gets hard to start...I stop on a hill and check things....seems ok. Anyway, I blaze home and on the way I notice my turn signals aren't working...hmmm.

Get home, kill engine and no lights, nothing. Battery is freaking dead. Trouble shooting finds a loose reg/rec wire. I hard wired it right to battery. Still maxing 12.45 volts at 3k rpms
I'm going to pop in a new battery and see what happens.

So....
I'm prepping a back up bike for Michaux.
As much as I like this bike it's gone soon. This is a constant problem, I want to ride, not fix shit.

Anybody want a green DRZ? :deal:

I'm thinking more like a Wee or something similar.
