Replacing fork oil, WP inverted forks (ktm)

Is it normal for the spring to be so tight against the plastic thing inside the fork? It isn't on videos I've seen. Now that I've put it back together, I can hear the spring rubbing, which I assume isn't normal.
I think I've fixed the leak, but now it doesn't seem to be right, which is odd given that all I did was take the cap off, dump the oil, and put in fresh oil (plus use a "seal mate").
Any hints?

I think the nominal preload on the springs is ~5MM (by adding or removing plastic/nylon spacers)
Although spring rubbing is not ideal doubt it really matters much.

Thanks, Sam. There is the 5mm spacer. I'm going to see if everything is seated correctly.

If you didn't remove the cartridge and pump it dry then filled with the recommended amount of oil you did it wrong. You need to pump the cartridge out or the remaining oil in it will overfill and contaminate the fresh oil. To disassemble you need a spring compressor. Look like this and is about $150 or so. There are cheaper versions but they........well they suck.
And that plastic sleeve is sacrificial it keeps the spring from rubbing against the inside of the slider and putting lots of aluminum shavings in the oil.

On the other hand, 1/2 fresh oil is better than no fresh oil.

Oil is highly overrated. Just run them dry!

I did dump and pump and dump (bow chicka bow wow) so it should be pretty clean, but the oil was only a year old, anyway. My motivator was cleaning the fork seal and replacing the oil that dumped all over Michaux.

OK it's yer money.
Time doesn't matter what kills suspension fluid is being forced through those little holes at extreme pressures repeatedly. Lots of heat and shear.
