If you're of the school of "better too much than too little" I certainly wouldn't go any HIGHER than 5% more than factory recommendations on torque, with or without the anti-sieze on the threads. :peep: But of course the threads of nut and axle should not have any oil, grease, broken off threads, metal shavings, or galling.

I wasn't saying you should do higher than factory specs. They're the ones who did the studies on metal properties, thread pitch, etc. I'm saying do factory specs, not "reduce the torque by 50% because of the lubricating properties of the anti seize." :peep:

But then I torqued my lug nuts with a 2' breaker bar on Saturday. Oops. Mechanical advantage is an amazing thing.

Here's what Bostik has to say concerning their regular grade Never Seez.
Bostik wrote:How Never-Seez Regular Grade Affects Torque:
Compared to unlubricated fasteners, the use of Never-Seez “Regular-Grade” can be viewed 2 ways:
(1) It provides up to 30% MORE clamping force when applying the SAME amount of torque!
(2) It provides the SAME clamping force when applying up to 30% LESS torque!
IMPORTANT!
• In order to best represent typical torque reduction values, Bostik references a “K-Factor” for unlubricated carbon steel fasteners of 0.185.
• Proper torque is critical and, if not clearly understood, users may over-torque their fasteners which may lead to costly damage.
BOSTIK is not liable for any damages incurred. Refer to the Bostik standard warranty for details
Personal testing and experience has given me to use 50% on axles backed up with .032" stainless safety wire. But I use High Nickel Bostik which contains graphite in addition to nickel.

If you wanna dig a little further here's a good start. You must keep in mind there are rolling elements in the axle equation and over tightening a ball bearing will lead to disaster.

Hm. Interesting. On a related note, from a google search about "torque when using antisieze" it looks like I want to get C5A.

C5A, huh? that is interesting but what does it have to do with axle nuts? :harhar: :rayof: :lurker:

I guess you send the C5A to "liberate" the axle nut?
