08 Klr 650 help.

Post by Daves08excr »

For the time that i have had my bike it has had a problem with what i call surging. When i give the bike throttle it's ok but at a steady throttle you can fell the bike like i said surge like it wants more gas. I have looked at the mods people do Like the .22 cent mod with the washers and opening up and ajusting the mixture. Has anyone here done these mods and do they work. I did'nt mind it at first but the longer the ride the more it bothers me. I just want a nice smooth feeling bike not one that keeps going back and fourth..

Ps. When i pull the clutch the surging stops and its nice and smooth so i know its not bearings or the chain. Could it be the clutch doing this, also it still feels good no slipping.

Turn your idle mix screw out a 1/2 turn. Your lean. It controls the first 1/4 of throttle.
The spark plug can do that also.

I got the baby on the weekends, but I'm home at 230 during the week.

Well mods to carb done. I did the 22 cent mod and unpluged the mix screw. Throtle response is much better but i still have the same surging problem going on. Back to the drawing boerd.

My buddies '08 KLR had, what sounds to be, the same problem. We did the .22 mod but also re-jetted the carb. I'm not sure which thing fixed it but I would have to go with the re-jet. I can say that the jet kit made it run like a whole new bike.

Time for jets. The EPA makes them run too lean. Thanks again big bro.

Well I hit up the Klr forums and got some more info. It seams the petcock on the klr is vacuum activated and has a lot of problems so I'm going to do the hurricane mod to it making it a gravity feed. I just need to remember to close it every time it sits. If I still have a problem after the mod ill jet it.

Petcock mod and fuel cap mods done. Runs much better surging is greatly reduced. I think there are jets in my future.
