find a bigger hammer
i did the same to the ignition and just jb welded the broken off piece and key in the ignition.

If it was in the ignition I would be perfectly happy w/ that. That chances of anybody stealing my beater bike would be slim, and if they did it wouldn't bother me too much.

ok-
take a magnet and put it over the key location then tap the tank cover with a rubber mallet and see if it comes out enough to get with needle nose plyers

Thanks to those who actually posted useful ideas.
I tried the dab of superglue trick. Didnt work.
Im trying scrounge up dental picks or something similar.
A few bucks on a broken key extractor kit might be well worth it.
I did find my spare key, for the ignition. So weilding the broken keyinto the lock to serve as permanent gas lock key is an option.
