My intro--After a 40 year hiatus, I decided I wanted to start riding in the dirt again. So, without much/any thought, I got a 1977 Husky 360 WR. I met a few other guys who have modern bikes, and after trying their bikes out, and finding that once I got at all tired kicking over the left-kick big bore Husky was more than I could handle, I bought a 2015 KTM 300 XC (estart--woohoo!!). I've only ridden it once, but I'm pretty sure it's a keeper. There are a few of us who've been riding together at the Landing MX track in Easton (nobody's favorite but it is close), and Wicomico Motorsports park by Budds Creek. Wicomico has a woods loop that is OK, and we all prefer to woods ride. I'm the only one with a street license, and none of us have a street-legal bike anyway, so dual-sporting is out. I get that this is a dual sport group, but there seem to be a few riders with dirt only rides here. MD has very few legal places to ride, and I'm looking for any advice on where to ride a reasonable distance (maybe 2 or 3 hours) from Annapolis. It'd also be great to find new folks to ride with. We all live in the Annapolis/Kent Island area.

Thanks-

John

:welcome:

If you and your friends are willing to help, the MD OHV Alliance is looking for people to support and create ORV areas on the eastern shore. DNR needs us to tell them what and where. The MDOHVA got $750K/yr dedicated to ORV trails maintenance and creation; DNR now needs to spend that. PM me if interested.

Hi!

Have you been to Tasker's Gap or MotoCove?
https://goo.gl/maps/ryEXvSzN1Cx Taskers.

Actually I think most of the rides here can be done with non street legal bikes.

If the place pleases you (TBC), you're welcome to join viewtopic.php?f=3&t=4766

Hello!
I know the Landing has been through some changes as of late and appears to be better that a few years back. I took my son there last tear and they would not let him on the big track so we were disappointed..???

You may want to check out WATR. https://watr.us/ I believe they have private riding ares near you. Other then that you're looking at at least a 2-4 hr drive into PA/VA/WV or western MD...

Happy Trails

Hi new guy.

Yes, a non-street legal dirtbike will work for most of the rides we post about on this forum. Should be obvious when they don't work. Most of our local dualsport rides are really just dirt road rides, something easily done on any streetbike (maybe just slower), or if there is actual offroad it is usually very small tiny pieces of offroad trail mixed with roads.

Hauling your bike is the Achilles Heel of offroading riding.

Thanks. I haven't been to Taskers or Motocove. I can't make it this weekend, but hopefully will be able to get out there soon. I wasn't trying to say anything bad about the Landing. The Landing is well run, and the big track, which I haven't been on, looks good and was professionally designed. If you want to practice MX, it's great. I'm just done with MX. My street ride is a Sportster--no trails on that thing.

Hi John F

So I am in the process of moving from Ellicott City to Easton (adding 1+ hrs to my drive time to any riding :frustrated:) and have been out of circulation lately. I will get ramped back up in August riding again, so maybe we can connect. I now have one of these to deal with the distance

I think they would make fun of me at Landing MX with my trials tire

By the way this place is dead lately. There most be a lot of secret off board rides

Where is that Skinny J and Wingfixer guy? Maybe dreaming of the rockies?

It has been dead lately... Usually its not this bad

My non-motorcycling life has been kicking my butt lately. Just one thing after another.
