Bald Eagle ride

Post by Twist » Mon May 13, 2019 8:48 am

I'm organizing a ride for a couple of friends and I for the first week in June and I'm trying to decide if it's worth it to travel the extra couple of hours up to Marienville PA or if we should grab a place at the Seven Mountains Campground and ride Bald Eagle. If you had a couple of days to spend riding, which would you choose and why?

I've ridden only about a half day in both places so I really don't know enough to say which would be better with two days available to ride there. When we get our plans settled I'll post it up here in case any of you mooks want to join us.

What kind of riding?
You could spend a good 2-3 days riding the Bald Eagle area. DS ride the forest roads and the nice twisty back roads; they have a DS trail system and of course Shade Mtn if you are feeling adventurous.

DS ride. We'll have a couple of WR250Rs, a KLR650 (not afraid of single track), and possibly a few other DS bikes.

I called the ranger at Marienville and was told that the trails are all cleared and looking pretty good - wet in spots - will open the the Friday before Memorial day. Same report from the Bald Eagle ranger. Both are planning to be open on schedule.

I guess one advantage to Marienville is that it's open to unplated, off-road bikes on the trails. Disadvantage is that it's over 5 hours away vs. about 3 hours.

The Bald Eagle ranger told me that camping is fully booked for Memorial Day weekend. I'm hoping if we go there during the first week in June it'll be more open.

OK, our plans are set. We're going to be arriving Sunday evening 6/2 and riding Bald Eagle on Monday and Tuesday. Myself (WR250R), Scott (WR250R), and David (KLR650). If anyone thinks they can get away let me know and we'll figure out where we can meet up. We're staying in one of the cabins at the Seven Mountains Campground. You'll probably find us in the evening out around a fire pit sipping on a beverage. Laoch, you still have my number?

If you ride into the northern most parts of Bald Eagle you will probably come across where the Dabbers event ran June 1 - 2.
You picked a good location to hub rides from.
Go on PaTRA site and print off the dual sport loop map also Shade loop map.

Thanks for the info. I’ve been to Seven Mountains and also thought about Woodward Cave but hadn’t stayed there.

I’ve printed off the state trail map and will go look for the PaTRA map.

I've got what looks like the tracks for what I think may be all of the trails, roads, etc in Bald Eagle. I've also got a 153 mile track that was sent to me represented as the 2015 Altrider rally ADV track:

This loop looks like it's got a fair bit of pavement on it so I'm wondering if we should just go off into the woods rambling around the trails or if this track is a worthy way to spend a day?

Any thoughts here?
