It encourages us to go north into PA to stay above it!

VFTR and HMDR 2018 Moonshine Enduro - Sept 16, Brandonville PA - 9AM Key time - Closed course - All Start Controls! Half Moon Enduro Saturday Sept 15th same location.

Here is a preview for the enduro this weekend. Weather looks great- come up and enjoy all the hard work HMDR and VFTR have put in. Just say NO to Florence.
Here’s what the fine folks at HMDR and VFTR have in store for you for the 43rd annual Moonshine Enduro. Our clubs have busted their tails to make sure every aspect of this event is the very best. We hope you all come and enjoy the hard work that we have invested. It is our way of paying back all the great clubs and members who give us a place to ride week in and week out.
As always- we have used course splits to custom blend our Moonshine to all riders ability and taste. We want to give everyone the right challenge and send them home smiling and with a thirst for more great Moonshine.
Your day will start with greetings from our crack team of amateurs staffing the sign up area. Evan and Dennis will be there to answer any questions and ensure a silky smooth sign up. You may have to speak slowly and clearly to the crew, as the 9:00 AM Key Time translated into an extra hour of Saturday night revelry. While completing your paperwork you will admire the stunning Moonshine T Shirts, beer glasses, and swag. Bring a few extra greenbacks with you and the lovely Brittany will be happy to lighten your wallet and load you up with all kinds of great loot.
Now to the good part- the ride! The start crew, led by veteran enduro ace Ed Theurkauf, will send you on a 6 mile jaunt of tar and dirt roads to the first check in. The speed average is only 18mph so there is no need to hurry. Take your time and enjoy the scenery.
VFTR founding member and original moonshine Trail Boss from 1974, Richard Colahan, greets you at the beginning of the Bears Head trail; 4.1 miles of enduro bliss- a windy trail that snakes through some of Pennsylvania’s finest hard wood terrain. Mostly all dirt trail with a couple random pebbles and a really neat switchback climb about 2/3 in. No real tight stuff, but twisty enough to keep the speeds reasonable. At the check-out you will be greeted by ECEA legend Kenny Lee Taylor and his inlaw/outlaw crew.
The next three test sections are brought to you courtesy of the High Mountain Dirt Riders.
A short 1 mile transfer from Kenny Lee’s check leads to the first, a 3.4 miles of a nice mix of tight and open woods- no real long bar banging sections, but just enough technical to keep you on your toes. It ends with a really cool piece weaving down a hill to the check out. Ample reset at the end to ensure everyone is back on time.
Next you get to the first split section of the day. ASSr, B, C, Masters, and Women riders will ride about 1.5 miles of power line and 2 tracker the first gas. AA and A riders to ASr. frolic in 4.4 miles of technical single track featuring some really cool rock crossings and a quick jaunt through the old “Moon Rock” spectator point. No stoppers but just enough challenge to keep our expert riders smiling. The check out of this section is right at the gas stop so everyone will get a great chance to see our elite riders at their finest.
At the gas you will be greeted by Evan Yarnall and the Solid Performance Crew who are there for any tech support issues you have. Flat tire? Not sure about your suspension settings? They’ll fix you right up. VFTR folks will also be there with free food and drinks. Refuel your body while you refuel your bike!
Leave the gas on a mix of 2 trackers and tar road, about 2 miles, and you arrive at the start control for the final HMDR section. 6.3 miles of awesome single track that serpentines through some more hardwood forest with lots of virgin trail courtesy of HMDR trail hounds Brian Frost and Todd Whitney. Couple little rocks here and there but no rock gardens. This section is an absolute blast to ride. Big reset at the end that is also a spectator point so you can meet your crew.

About a 5 miles transfer of tar road and 2 tracker leads to the next section, the Blue Nob Hunt Club trail. This 6.5 mile bonanza has been hailed by many as the most fun section in the ECEA, and for good reason. Nice flowing dirt trail capped off by a gentle crossing of the Catawissa Creek about a mile from the end. We spent time in the section removing the one rock garden that was put in by the evil genius Mike Hoover in 1986. This section has been groomed to perfection. If you’re not grinning like the Cheshire Cat at the end, you either don’t like motorcycles or dirt trail.
3 mile transfer up the mountain to the Stick Farm Start Control. 4.2 miles with a .6 mile piece of twisty heaven about 1.5 miles in. Not as tight as it once was, it’s opened up over time, but you will be constantly turning for that short section. After the twisty it opens up to more flowing trail with a couple small pebbles to the check out where former ECEA president Eric Corbin awaits your arrival.
4.5 miles of 2 tracker and you will arrive at gas #2. This is a closed gas so make sure you haveput a can on gas truck #2 before starting.Solid Performance VFTR will be there providing the same great service you enjoyed at gas 1.
Cruise up the mountain on tar and dirt roads to the next section, a 5.3 mile blend of our famous Old Crappy and Topolski Turnpike sections. It is the final test for ASSr./B/C/Women and Masters. These trails have evolved over the years with some parts dating back to 1986 and are a compilation of efforts by many VFTR members including founder Val Shukaitis, Eric Corbin, Paul Scanlin, Greg Sawka and Jamie Wright. Heck I think that our old friend Cliff Tenney even trimmed a twig or two in that area. Nice flowing trail where Kenny Lee and the Inlaw/Outlaws will greet you again.
ASSr, B,C, Women and Masters will enjoy the scenery on a mix of woods roads and ATV trail for the next few miles to transfer back to the finish at the camp. Your day is done so cruise on back and blow the foam off a frosty cold one.
AA/to A Sr. riders will check in to the Ridge Trail. This is my favorite trail in the world and these riders feast on 6.9 miles of glorious technical rocky single track. No stoppers, but it demands constant attention and finesse. Awesome! 1.5 mile untimed transfer back to the camp after the check out.
Enjoy the company of your fellow riders and the beverages of your choice while Merle and the VFTR crew tally and post your scores. You will also get to check out at the splendid Moonshine Jugs that will be presented by none other than the Irish Hammer himself- Dennis Fitzgerald. These awards are unique and you will be glad you worked to earn one.
That’s about it. It is going to be one fine day of riding so I hope many of you will come and enjoy the hard work VFTR and HMDR have put into this event.

"A couple small pebbles", well written Sir! :killingme:

Wish I could make this good ole PA Rock fest but the boy has a cub scout camp out. I had thoughts of taking the YZ with me camping and trying to sneak out Sunday morning but I gotta at least pretend to be a good Dad.

Have fun, it"s a good ride :roost:

Strep's no joke. It almost killed me because I self diagnosed to a doctor, and they gave me the wrong drug out of spite.

finish all the antibiotic!
