I have a dumb question. When they say bikes must be street legal does that mean there needs to be a current vs inspection?

I wouldn't worry about whether it does or doesn't have current inspection.
As long as it has current registration you are fine.

S500 is the only dualsport type event I've ever been to where they seem to actually do a "real" inspection. Unlike other places where they just see you have lights and a tag and don't worry about whether its legal.

That is what I remember from last year. Unless it was an adventure bike, my Yamaha dirt bike was the only one with an inspection and most others did not have turn signals either.

I spent the better part of today taking care of my KTM. I decided not to bring along the Wee. I changed the oil, adjusted the valves, changed the coolant, changed the rear tire, and cleaned the bike with a toothbrush so it would look purdy. I'm mostly packed for the weekend now.
