Well I had to ride. On the Moto Cove trails at 9:00. Finished all trails about 12:00.
The last 20 Minutes was a little slick.
This was my first time at Moto Cove, fun to ride.
Wish they would make some single track.

Re: Ride this Sat 2/11?
Forgot to mention, stopped by Ride On Moto. Thinking about getting a dual sport.
The KTM 690 Enduro was nice. But 10K ouch.
What is a good used dual sport to buy.

You won't be doing any single track on the 690..... a 450 or 500 exc could get it done....2way2wheels wrote:Forgot to mention, stopped by Ride On Moto. Thinking about getting a dual sport.

The term dualsport is really vague.2way2wheels wrote:Forgot to mention, stopped by Ride On Moto. Thinking about getting a dual sport.

My Beta Xtrainer has a street tag, so is a dualsport.
My Suzuki DR650 is also a dualsport.
Technically a BMW R1200GSA that ways in over 600lbs is a dualsport.
All are great bikes but each one serves a different mission as a "dualsport"

Sounds like if you had 2 or 3 "dual sports" you would have it covered.
Any one capable of riding to Moto Cove and riding the trails?

That's all based on the level of skill you possess. There are people who could take the R1200GSA through MotoCove, and then there are people who couldn't take a walk through there.

Thanks
Trail riding only, is a lot safer anyway.

For most of 2015 my 2T was down and I took my DR650 on all my rides.2way2wheels wrote:Sounds like if you had 2 or 3 "dual sports" you would have it covered.

I've ridden everything at MotoCove on my 650. While that 650 is totally capable of doing highway at 70+, I sort of feel that doing a 1-3 hour highway ride just to get to the actual offroad isnt really worth it bc that is going to destroy your good knobby tires quickly.
While I love the idea of "true dualsporting". Its difficult to pull off unless you lived with in 30 minutes or so of awesome offroad and trails.
A year or two ago some of us did an awesome dualsport trip. Four days starting from northern Frederick, we rode way up into PA and did paved roads, lots of dirt roads, and even spent most of a day exploring offroad trails.
For most of us this was somewhat of a compromise. We rode big 650's with crappy dualsport tires (I think one guy had good rubber and pretty much destroyed it on the trip). While the trip was AWESOME, it was a compromise. Yes, we did offroad but it wasnt really anything that hard. I struggled a bit in a few spots but I did it all on motard wheels.
Most of us have "dualsports" that are barely tagged dirtbikes. A good number of us do have more traditional dualsports too, but most of the time we dont bring them out for uber tough offroad.

And YES, multiple bikes to fill multiple roles is the way to do it if you have the finances and garage space for them.

I rode my Honda 650 on the Pa trip Bucho is talking about & had a blast. The big 650s are impressive in that they truly can do it all.... but not very well.
A couple guys rode big ktm's & they are better in the woods and plenty capable on the road although need bigger tanks & probably not as comfortable. Still wouldn't be my go to woods bike, too heavy & probably kill me but if I had the bucks I'd get one.
