HOT! DNR Wilderness Meetings!

Post by Rut Row »

HOT, HOT, HOT! Fast moving train!

I attended the Montgomery Co meeting. They plan on expanding some wilderness areas by including areas not designated wilderness but surrounded on all sides by wilderness. This makes sense.

HOWEVER - they also want to take almost all of Dan's Mountain (4,180 acres) and make it wilderness. IMHO, they have not made a case why that is necessary. They also want another 2,163 acres in Green Ridge SF and 3,993 acres in Garrett Co for the Yough corridor.

Please attend the meetings and express your opinions. Please let us know how the meetings went and your positions.

If you write, be positive, supportive of the smaller additions but challenge Dan's Mountain and any others you feel strongly about.

The Department of Natural Resources will be holding public meetings in nine counties across the State to collect comments on designating additional Wildlands in Maryland’s Wildlands Preservation System. Click here for more information.

DNR is currently seeking input on 27 areas of State land that may be suitable for Wildland designation. Information and maps showing the location of the areas are available here.

The public meetings will focus on the county in which proposed new or expanded Wildlands are located, but representatives will accept comments regarding any aspect of the proposed designations.
