I received a letter in the mail today from the Maryland DNR. I'm not sure how many others got it also, but I thought I'd share. This may be of interest to many of us, and I plan on attending. Might be a good place/time to bring up our possible volunteer work day.
The Department of Natural Resources (DNR) would like to invite
you to a meeting to discuss a recently completed draft assessment of
the environmental impacts of off-road vehicle trails on the sensitive
resource features found on DNR lands.
As an ORV stakeholder, the Department would like to share the
results of the draft Statewide Off-Road Vehicle Trail Assessment with
you and solicit your ideas on a future ORV strategy to address any
resource concerns and user needs.
The results of the study and the meeting dialogue will have a direct
impact on you as a user of public lands, so we encourage you to
attend this very important discussion.
The meeting is scheduled for March 23, 2011 from 7 PM until 9 PM.
The meeting will be held within the Natural Resource Police
conference room at Gwynnbrook WMA, 3738 Gwynnbrook Avenue,
Owings Mill, Maryland 21117. Directions to the facility can be found
at: http://www.dnr.state.md.us/wildlife/Pub ... gwynnbrook
Please reply to me if you plan to attend and indicate whether you will
be representing an ORV club or group. If you have any additional
questions regarding the meeting, please give me a call at (410) 260-
8412. We look forward to a productive meeting. Thank you in -
advance for your input on ORV use on DNR lands.
John F.

Better ride Greenridge while you can. Looks like the tree huggers want to kick us out.

I'll meet you there. Hopefully by then I'll have spoken with the GR Ranger (he mentioned this meeting in an email). We can talk more with him there hopefully.

And all you Baltimorians should also plan on attending!

Grady - I sent this to NVTR as well. If none of their officers will attend, I asked if I could represent them (I'm a member).

Ill be working but please let me know what they discuss. It would suck if they are trying to kick us out of the ORV.

I'm going to try and make this. Can anyone get a copy of the draft report before the meeting? It would be nice to know what they would like to discuss ahead of time...

Spoke to John Wilson and requested a copy of draft assessment (see copy of email below). He said that he has a meeting regarding this matter today and would get back to me tomorrow.

John,

Per our telephone conversation, I am requesting a copy of the draft assessment of environmental impact of ORV trails on behalf of my club. We would like the opportunity to review the draft prior to the March 23rd meeting so that we can be informed of the findings and can be an active participant in the discussion.

I am a member of the Dual Sporters/Adventurers of Maryland and Nearby (D.A.M.N.) riders club with membership of over 350. Although not confirmed we should have at least three members in attendance at the meeting on March 23rd.

Thank you,
