Sport Adventure touring article

The above article is dated, but I had not read it before. These are two bikes I could see myself on, bombing the faster roads of WV, NC, and TN, preferably two-up. Ultimately, Lou's Adventure 950 might be the best of all, but this article got me dreaming of tight twisty mountain passes with a future ex-wife along for the ride.

Last year I rode an 07 Tiger at the Frederick dealer. Nice bike and it is on my used-bike watch list -- although I think I'd prefer an 06 to get the DS frame.

I'm a huge fan of both marques, but gun-to-the-head, I'd pick that Tiger any day. I love that bike.

That is a great type of bike. Basically a sport tourer that can ride down a dirt road.

I highly enjoyed the R1200GS I had as a rental bike a year ago, but too pricy. I'd like a test ride on a Strom. But the Tiger's are cool...

You can borrow my new one for a test ride/afternoon any time. Just say the word - we'll get lunch in Chalres Town or something to give you the real perspective. It's not the big one, but I don't think it will matter - the stance of the Thou is not much bigger or different. I tried the big GS, but found it suuuper top-heavy, at least for my purposes.

Swapping bikes in general is quite fun for me. Even if its something I have no intention of ever getting. Good for perspective I guess.

For solo riding, I'd bet the 650 is plenty compared to the 1000. Especially on the tighter twisties and dirt roads.
I have a vision of a V-strom powered adventure touring sidehack. For that alone I'd probably want the full liter engine.

But I'll take you up on it sometime. If you have a free midweek day over the next couple of weeks let me know and we can go for a spin.

I had a ride on a Strom 1k which had the full-boat RaceTech suspension mods. At the time, I didn't own a DRZ, and was riding a ZReX 1100.

It felt big, heavy, not very nimble, and not as fast as I expected from a liter bike. In retrospect, it's wide, as well, for a dual-sport, and far, far too much power for the dirt. It was ultra-comfy, tho, and had really great luggage.
