How to improve brakes? (Warning: rambling)

Disclaimer: Having raced cars and ridden a lot of mountain biking, along w/ being an engineer, I am a brake snob. They should have little travel to the engagement point then be very firm to be force modulated. Squishy pedals and levers suck IMO. Ok, so on to my main question: I have some play bikes ...

Re: 2009 KTM 250 XC-F engine project

This may have a silver lining? Got the oil drained and water pump impeller off this morning. Its pretty ugly and needs replacing. Several bits chipped off. I'll back flush the rest of the system in case the parts ended up in there.

Re: 2009 KTM 250 XC-F engine project

Anyway... I got the head machined, new exh valves, all new valve springs and some other small bits. Measured the piston & cyl and decided the former was worn enough to warrant replacement 'while I was in there'. Ordered a new Vertex piston and a Wiseco ring compressor. Everything finally came in...

Re: Mini Moto still a thing? (AKA what to do w/ odd TTR125 wheels)

I've read a couple different sets of rules but the water cooled and air cooled are completely different classes. Using the Sandy Hook rules: https://www.sandyhookspeedway.com/uploads/2/5/0/1/25011543/2021_mm_handbook_color_3.11.21.pdf A 150cc air cooled is F2 (no liquid cooled 4-strokes). 150cc wate...

Re: Shorten o-ring chain?

Thank you. You all have confirmed my thought process on this. Sacrifice a side plate to save the pins, sacrifice the pins to save a side plate, combine the good parts and re-peen. I've actually thought that since I can get likely get one entire pin out intact, I could just press that into a chain wh...

Mini Moto still a thing? (AKA what to do w/ odd TTR125 wheels)

I know Phoo has raced some mini motos @ Sandy Hook. Is mini-moto racing still a thing much anymore? Seems like its really died out. Anyway, I picked up a TTR125L project over the winter (don't know why I already have too many projects.) I have it sort of running again (but then it dies suddenly too ...

Re: Shorten o-ring chain?

AFAIK, There are no such things as master links for #219 o-ring chain. Thats the crux of the problem. I have a Motion Pro tool (or one just like it.) I'm fairly sure it won't press a peened/staked pin out or in. What I'm asking is if anyone has ever carefully 'unpeened' a link and then used a tool l...

Shorten o-ring chain?

Ok, so I have a custom need. I need a shorter o-ring chain than is typically available. Ok, so no big deal. You partly grind off the rivet head, press out the old pin connecting the extra part of the chain you no longer need, discard, and install the master link in its place right? Well, its not tha...

Re: Sur Ron Tuning. aka geek speak.

We got the SurRons out to Eagle Bay yesterday. Kid did really well on his 'new' X160. Took him all of 5min to settl in and get it slightly airborne. Even in Eco mode it has a lot more power and speed than the OSET 20R. We did the kiddie tracks a few times, the short loop once, then ran through half ...
