Re: WTB: Montesa 2604T
I'll be looking for some tips on making it better for the gnarlier stuff we ride (21" front wheel, trials tires, etc) More SurRon owners  (I'm about to buy another one - for the kid to ride) What fork is it coming with? If the RST you will need a new fork for a 21" wheel. The DNM ...

Re: WTB: Montesa 2604T
SurRon isn't good at trials. Steering is too slack and turn angle limits it. The factory control has a lousy throttle mapping too. The aftermarket Nuc 24F control fixes the last issue but its a 8+mo waiting period. They are a hoot to ride in the woods though! About 3/4 size of a real motorcycle so t...

Re: What did you work on today?
KTMs have a flywheel holding bolt that is installed on the bike. Factory, there is a thick washer/spacer under the bolt. You just move to TDC, remove the bolt, remove the spacer, and reinstall the bolt. It must go into a hole in the flywheel or something. But with 80% leakdown I couldn't develop eno...

Re: What did you work on today?
Picked up a 2009 250 XC-F project w/ a leakdown problem last week (rusted seats seem to be the culprit.) This is my first time pulling a bike motor out or apart. Is it *SO EASY* compared to cars! Everything is so small and light. Pulled the motor before I even unloaded it from the truck. 20...

LOL. Just out of frame so she wont be internet famous :) They have surprising torque. Will put you on your butt in a hurry. I intalled the wrist-tether kill switch on ours (I think it came stock on later versions.) Edit: Hope she is ok! Don't mean to sound insensitive. We have busted our butts on th...

Need head machined - Where?
Bought an '09 KTM 250 XC-F project that has a known leakdown problem. I pulled the head off and it looks like it sat long enough for the seats to rust a little. Looks like someone had recently replaced the intake valves w/ Titnium ones recently (intake valves are pretty clean and ZERO carbon on the ...

Re: DRZ400 engine prep
Do those fancy euro bikes last 24k, or even 14k miles? Or does it only last that long in kilometers? :amazon: Yes. Aaron.S on ADVrider had 40k+(km) on a 500 w/o a rebuild. Went round the world on on that one too I think. Now up to ~twice that distance and 2000hrs? But I haven't kept up in a while. ...

Re: DRZ400 engine prep
Good points. If you're already tearing it down to the piston, now is the time to put in that tall 5th gear.
But before you go that far (piston/rings), why not do a leak down test first? Used motor could be perfectly fine as is.
