--- Original Post #1 follows -----------------------------------
Does anyone have any interest in a DS camping trip? What I have in mind is something like load the bikes with tents, etc, ride to... oh, say Seneca Rocks via the back roads, camp and come home? We'd haul everything on the bikes - no trucks or trailers allowed.

If someone knows other interesting areas I'm wide open to suggestions. This would be a Sat/Sun trip. Low speed, smell the flowers kind of riding.

Zina & I are planning to do this later this summer out here on the Left Coast. Seems like a lot of fun.

I just put a rack on the DR. Sounds like an AdventureMotard ride.

In.. especially since I can't to the pine barrens early in Sept with DAMN - as it's labor day weekend and have commitments..

Been itching to do this with ds bikes... I take a route on the street bikes that dumps you down on 33 - but there is a dirt road - trail that I am too much of a wuss to try out on the 990 ...

If you look at the east side of 33 before you get to the fun section .. look for Hopkins Gap road - it's the road we usually take onto 33 with street bikes.. However there is a dirt road off of it called Long Run road

Image

It looks like it takes to you to T intersection and back to 33 or north to another location... it's supposed to be blast on dual sport - but never done it... There looks like there could be some fun exploring around there....

Also if camping is a deal breaker - I have done trips out to Franklin and there is a hotel behind the pizza joint that is super cheap... You need flip flops for the shower- but when 6 of stayed - 2 to a room - it worked out to about 25 bucks a head - and that included beer from the gas station and a pizza - but if you want to go further out.. I'd be game, especially since I just picked up a rack and bag for the XR...

There is a campsite off smoke hole rd. Just look for the fire ring on the side of the hotel. It's just before the lodge if heading south on smoke hole
